Week 18: "The Rescue"

Como andan!! So I finished my first week as the only english speaker in our small little city of Bella Union...and it was awesome! Also this week the weather has turned into a beast of heat! I thought I sweated a lot when I was in Utah, but here it's another story! This week I also remembered that my wonderful mother and I had bought the thingy that I can put in my backpack that sprays nice cold water...it has saved my life...but also because I am drinking so much water I wake up like 2 or 3 times a night to go to the bathroom, pero valio la pena.

But anyways this week we have been working with menos activos like crazy! And trying to strengthen the barrio! And we have some amazing progress, this week we had almost 75 people in the church this week! Earlier in the week we had a quorum de elderes and we all met at the church with the rest of the priesthood holders of the ward. The bishop called it the call for battle. Each group had the own family to visit and after we made the plans we dispersed to go to war contra pecado! All four of us elders had the impression that we should go to the la hermana cruz marquez - less active member. When we got there, we decided to start the charla with a hymn. And it was a amazing how something so simple as a hymn invited the spirit into the home. We went on to teach about the sabbath day, and made the joke that missionaries are some of the worst sinners and how greatful we are to take the sacrament everyweek, so that we start the week clean again. We ended the hymn and the hermana told us she wanted to offer the prayer and while she was praying she began to cry. It was another powerful moment in this wonderful mission. And it all started with something as simple as a hymn.

I know that one of the most important things about missionary work is something that us elders like to call the "the rescue" I know that finding and baptizing is awesome! But I also know that saving those people who have gotten lost after joining the church is just as important. They start on the path and for one reason or another started to drift off, but as missionaries, and members of the church, we can reach out and grab our brothers and sisters. And it all begins with love, or something small like singing a hymn together. It's amazing how any small act of kindess or love can change someone. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and in return we love him, and all of his children.

I love you my peeps!

Con cariƱo,
Elder Watts
